Building Broadband Partnerships with Universities and Industry

The Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program (CMC) is a $268 million grant program to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) for the purchase of broadband internet access service and eligible equipment or to hire and train information technology personnel. The billions of dollars for broadband expansion and innovation created the unprecedented opportunity for universities to improve campus communication infrastructure, and communities in the immediate surrounding. In this session, several recipients of CMC grants will discuss the challenges they face, and the opportunities for WIA members to created partnerships for program implementation and workforce development strategies such as the HBCU Pilot Apprenticeship Consortium.
