Many top U.S. mobile operators in 2016 signed the Wireless Network Resiliency Cooperative Framework, a voluntary set of guidelines for reacting to natural disasters and other emergencies. Today there is bipartisan support at the FCC for making those voluntary rules mandatory. In the wake of Hurricane Ian, one of the worst hurricanes in U.S. history, wireless operators used innovative technologies such as drones and open roaming to help speed the recovery from that disaster and renew wireless services. This panel will take an in-depth look at some of those recovery efforts as well as other state-of-the-art technologies that are available to operators and infrastructure companies to keep networks operational during emergencies and other disasters.
