Cable operators and wireless operators are in a heated battle for customers. Cablecos are operating as mobile network virtual operators (MVNOs) and selling wireless services to their customers. Wireless operators are offering fixed wireless access (FWA) as a residential broadband service to their customers. In addition, cable operators like Comcast are starting to deploy 5G radios and small cells as a way to reduce costs by offloading their MVNO traffic onto their own network. MSOs and MNOs are bundling wireless with broadband and cutting prices to attract customers. MVNOs are also proliferating and offering cut-rate prices. This panel will discuss the increasing number of wireless service offerings – whether they are from MSOs, MNOs or MVNOS – and look at the possible long-term outcomes.
