2023 is shaping up to finally be the year of the small cell. Small cells have been hyped before but after focusing on macro 5G network deployments (and more recently mid-band and C-band 5G deployments), mobile operators are now poised to turn their focus to small cells. Some cable operators are also deploying small cells. Verizon has hinted to investors that it will step up its small-cell deployments in 2023 and others will likely follow. Analyst firm Dell’Oro Group has said it expects U.S. small-cell deployments to increase at a 10% to 15% compound annual growth rate through 2026. But the small-cell definition is also fluid as some consider private network access points to be small cells. This panel discussion will focus on the outlook for small cells as well as how this technology is evolving to include diverse deployments (private, campus, urban) and different types of capabilities.
