Overall investment in broadband infrastructure – particularly fiber networks – has skyrocketed thanks to the expectation that fiber networks will need billions in investments to keep up with bandwidth demand. Some analysts and fiber CEOs expect that eventually the U.S. will have just a handful of fiber providers with coverage that blankets the country. To make that a reality, many expect there to be a wave of consolidation among broadband companies. We’re already seeing some of this in the Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) market as some of these companies fear that they will struggle to survive long-term as fiber overbuilders hit their territories. This panel will discuss the M&A outlook in fiber, tower, WISPs, and what it means for the entire telecom ecosystem and for telecom investors.
