Many utility companies are finding that delivering broadband services to their customers is a natural extension of their business because they can leverage existing electrical infrastructure. And in many cases, these utilities are running fiber any way as part of their modernization projects. In the recent FCC Rural Digital Opportunity Fund reverse auction, many electric co-ops were awarded funds for their broadband buildouts. This panel will look at the pros and cons of some of these endeavors.
