Joe Kochan is the Chief Operating Officer for US Ignite, a national non-profit organization advancing smart cities and the communications networks that enable them. Within US Ignite, Joe also serves as the director of the Project Office for the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research, a $100M program funded by the National Science Foundation and an industry consortium of more than two dozen leading wireless and telecommunications companies.
Prior to US Ignite, Joe worked as part of the Department of Commerce’s BTOP grant program. He was also Co-Founder and Vice President of Operations for DigitalBridge Communications (DBC), a Virginia-based wireless startup dedicated to bringing broadband services to small, underserved markets nationwide.
Previous to his role at DigitalBridge, Joe worked in strategic planning for Verizon where he focused on the military housing market and the implementation of the first Verizon FiOS networks at military bases across the country. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University and lives in Washington, DC.
