John Nettles is the president of Pine Belt Communications, of Arlington, AL, a privately owned, diversified carrier serving parts of West Central Alabama. The company was founded in 1958 by John’s father, the late Dr. James D Nettles. Current operations include: Incumbent local exchange voice and broadband services to approximately 2,000 establishments in parts of Marengo, Wilcox and Clarke Counties; Competitive local exchange services in parts of Thomasville, Pine Hill, Selma, Linden, Butler, Grove Hill and Marion; Hybrid fiber-coax IPTV and broadband access services in Grove Hill and Butler; 4G-LTE mobile and fixed services throughout the Alabama Counties of Choctaw, Dallas, Marengo, Perry and Wilcox.
John holds a BA in History from the University of Alabama, awarded in 1982 and an MBA earned in 1993. He served in the US Army from 1982 to 1988 with assignments in, Germany, Maryland, and New York. He also served two years in the Alabama Army National Guard.
Additional activities include past president and current board member of the Telecommunications Association of the Southeast. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Rural Wireless Association chairing its Public Policy Committee and Rural National Security Council and a member of the State of Alabama E-911 Board.
