Dr. Ronald Johnson is Senior Advisor and Chief Strategist for Diversity and Inclusion for WIA. He is the Association’s Subject Matter Expert on minority serving institutions in workforce development.
Commissioner Johnson is serving his 5th four-year term as Commissioner/Secretary of the FCEDA, where he also chairs the Committee on Small Business and Diversity. As Commissioner/Secretary, Commissioner Johnson has signed off on over $2.5billion of industrial revenue bond financing for governmental, non-profit and manufacturing projects, while retaining and attracting some of the world’s largest companies to Fairfax County, Virginia. At the state level, he has served five Virginia Governors in appointed leadership positions in education, transportation and technology.
His professional and business career expands thirty-five years in the telecommunications infrastructure field, while working to ensure economic opportunity and diversity by serving as facilitator and a consensus maker on a wide range of challenging issues, most notable the confluence of innovation and public policy on our Nation’s growing workforce. Dr. Johnson has authored studies and reports and convened thought sessions and panels in this area.
For the Federal Communication Commission, Dr. Johnson is serving is his third two-year Chairman’s appointment to an advisory committee on diversity and inclusion, where he has assisted in providing the FCC with important studies and policy proposals, and he co-hosted several events on supplier diversity and procurement best practices. He currently sits on the FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment, Technology Workforce Subcommittee.
Dr. Johnson is considered a source in the areas of building workforce programs in higher education; higher education, accreditation, governance, curricula; diversity and inclusion in ICT industry; governance within higher education, industry and non-profit organizations; and, creating pathways of collaboration between government, industry, higher education and diverse communities.
In addition, Dr. Johnson has served as advisor on investment and funding strategies, mergers and acquisitions; facilitated millions of dollars in funding for diversity businesses and HBCUs; consultant on diversity in ICT, manufacturing and related industries; facilitator of relationships for Public/Private investors and emerging technology companies; advisor to small and diverse companies on business improvement and development strategies; and, served as advisor to non-profits on governance and strategic planning.
Among the many organizations he serves, currently he is chairman of the board of directors of the Multicultural, Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC), and Chairman of Governance and Legal at historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
